Be Merry. You Deserve It!
If our entire lifetime were to be an amusement park, the year 2020 would easily be one of the most exhausting rides in it - one many people wouldn't want to experience more than once.
At the start of the year, we all, one way or the other, had a feeling that the year was going to be a special one, but we could never have guessed what costume it was going to turn up in.
At a point, it felt like there was no end in sight, and we all had to come to terms with what many of us already termed "the new normal."
It was almost impossible to make plans for the future, as we realized that anything could happen at any time to disrupt our carefully crafted plans.
We switched from having everyone in our faces to being alone in our spaces - it was terrible because we couldn't just get out. We realized that many of the things we took for granted should have been cherished a lot more.
We became avatars in a virtual world of social media and Zoom meetings.
For many people, including myself, life came to a halt, and it took a few intentional actions to get back on track.
Only a few people may have been lucky with this.
In contrast, life may just have happened to the majority - like the many University students in Nigeria who may have had their worst year yet, or those who lost their loved ones to the pandemic or police brutality.
However, the holidays give us a chance to break from everything to reflect and recharge for the next challenges.
As cliche as it may sound, this period feels like the best time to take stock of all that happened to you during the year and decide on what you want to get done in the next 12 months.
It's okay if you're not where you planned to be. It's been a bumpy ride, but you are still here, and that's a flex.
Take a break today and be merry. You deserve this one!
I am sending you the warmest virtual hug you've received this year.
Happy holidays!
Funbi.
