Know your play.
In the game of football, the goal is to outscore your opponent.
The way a team chooses to do this is a product of their philosophy — how they think the game should be played.
Some enjoy passing the ball around, others believe in launching the balls as far as possible, and some setup to counterattack.
The best teams recognize their philosophy, understand their gameplan, and stick to it. They work on it so much that it becomes second nature to them.
They will play football their way regardless of who's playing against them because they understand their strengths and weaknesses.
As diverse as we are, we sometimes share common goals. One of these is the goal to be financially free. I am yet to meet anyone who doesn't crave financial freedom.
For a goal that's commonly shared by almost everyone on earth, it has many different routes. Everyone speaks freely about the path they took, and the ones who can scream the loudest tend to influence others into following them.
One thing we fail to realize is that people reach decisions based on circumstances peculiar to them.
There are life events that influence your decisions. At any given point in time, people are at different stages of life. It isn't logical to expect the same thing from everyone at the same time.
To block out the noise, you need to know your play.
Your play is the tactic you have chosen to navigate the game of life. To create this strategy, you need to identify your peculiar situation, weigh your options, and understand why.
Lately, the Bitcoin craze has rekindled and spread like wildfire. Everyone is talking about how the price has skyrocketed and how it would have been a smart decision if you invested months ago.
You may have started to feel like you've missed an enormous opportunity to become wealthy by not investing in Bitcoin early enough.
Maybe you have, but are you making your decisions based on what works for you or what everyone else is saying?
Did you have enough spare money to put into Bitcoin when the price was low? Did you even know Bitcoin?
Instead of being emotional about it, apply the 3-step process to identify your play.
Identify your peculiar situation - Do you understand what Bitcoin is? Do you currently have limited resources, or have you got enough to spare? Do you need to raise funds for a pressing personal or family need?
Weigh your options - Can you create time to understand the concept? Would you prefer to spread your resources thin or focus on growing your earning power? Can you do both?
Understand why - What are your reasons for the option you chose? Is there a clear path to follow to reach the end goal still? Are you convinced, or is this decision influenced by someone else?
It would be best if you didn't make your life decisions based on someone's actions, especially when they are in a completely different stage of life.
Your approach to life depends on circumstances peculiar to you. As these circumstances change, your gameplan changes.
You can reference other people's playbooks but don't just copy them blindly. What worked for them may not be the best for you.
